The rating of the wine reflects the mean value from a tasting by our jury.
The wine was evaluated in a blind tasting.
The wine was tasted as a barrel sample or before an official test number (Amtliche Prüfungsnummer or Staatliche Prüfnummer) was issued.
The wine exhibited a sensory abnormality during our tasting. This does not necessarily have to be a qualitative defect or a wine fault. In the case of a qualitative impairment, a devaluation or rejection was made depending on the type and severity of the defect or wine fault.

Clear, brilliant lemon yellow. Youthful bouquet with tropical fruits. Currently requires a lot of time in the open bottle to fully develop its aroma. The alcohol is perfectly integrated and gives the wine a pleasant fullness, over whose foundation an impressive harmony of all taste parameters rises. Obviously, this is a true long-distance runner, who was in danger of being underestimated in our hidden tasting. In its style no classical Mittelrhein Riesling of traditional coinage, but a genuine monument which we trust with some years bottle ripeness even a higher evaluation. Lasting length.

Medium yellow. Unspectacular, but stylish Pinot Gris with everything the grape variety brings. Pleasant and appealing fruitiness in nose and mouth, delicate creaminess, moderate acidity, very good length.

Jörg Lanius' estate Riesling needs a good day in the fresh air to get rid of his “baby bacon”. In the glass grey lemon yellow. In the nose at the beginning still very closed, with discreet fruitiness. On the tongue quite harmonious, with a fine mineral slate note. At first it looks quite neutral, but it opens on the second day and then reveals a rather concise green and herbaceous spice. Good length.

Light straw yellow. Currently still requires a lot of air. At first it looks completely distorted, but after a treatment in the Ovarius decanter it looks like it has been transformed. A wine that does not live from its primary aroma and a rare acidity in the vintage 2018, but convinces with substance. Here, however, full ripeness was not exhausted to the very end. This benefits the wine. Green herbal aromas and a fine acidity run through the creamy fullness of the fruit and ensure revival. The phenolic component will probably not be everyone's cup of tea – but it doesn't have to be. Very good length.

Pale yellow. In the nose grapefruit and yellow like red apple. The palate shows fruit and delicate creamy fullness with good concentration and excellent balance. In the finale grapefruit again. Very good length.

Light white gold. Discreet flint scent. In the nose restrained fragrance with soft hints of mandarin and orange. Rather strong body with a delicate creamy texture and fine sweetness. Grapefruit on the long finish.

On the first day, the Großes Gewächs "Am Lauerbaum" showed pronounced reduction, so that we had to suspend the evaluation for the time being. Overall, however, the wine was less affected than its counterpart from the Oberweseler Oelsberg. After two days under observation, the reduction has decreased to such an extent that we were able to get an idea of the wine's substance. Lemon yellow colour. In the nose at the moment with only discreet fruitiness. More broadly based than the straighter, more focused Oelsberg. Clear spontaneous aromas and fine wood barrel notes. Traditional, puristic style. Creamy fruit density, good balance and mineral depth. Light phenolic bitterness. Very good length. Unmistakably good material. A rough diamond that absolutely needs a few more years of ripening.

Full lemon yellow. Discreetly planty scent of peach pit and stone fruit. Full-bodied, dry Riesling that continues to be very compact, but has shed its youthful reductiveness. What remains is a high-quality phenolic, no longer bitter at all, which confirms our earlier view of the wine. Thanks to its thoroughly piquant acidity, which is perfectly embedded in the substance, the Große Gewächs from the Oelsberg now seems much more polished than it did two years ago. Excellent length. Still far from the end of a more than hopeful development. Not a soloist. Ideal food companion.

Even after two days of aeration, the Oberweseler Oelsberg Großes Gewächs still showed a noticeable reduction note, but finally allowed a closer examination. Lemon yellow. In the nose, overlaid by spontaneous fermentation aromas, hints of stone fruit, especially peach stone. Traditional, puristic style. Vertical, with deep and multi-layered minerality and excellent depth. Lighter than the alcohol content suggests. Discreet phenolic bitter note. Very good length. Requires a few more years of maturation.
