Deep garnet red with brick-red reflections, slight cloudiness and decreasing transparency with prolonged aeration. Fine fragrance of cranberry with subtle toasted notes and iridescent, complex aromas of violet, smoked bacon, chestnut and white pepper. In the mouth it is clearly marked by new wood, but dominated by the fruit. Velvety, fine-grained and well polymerised tannins. Stable, quite distinctive acidity that is still perfectly balancing even after ten years. Excellent length and depth. Approaching the peak, but still has reserves for a few more years. Shows a clear improvement compared to the first tasting in October 2018.

Transparent garnet red with beginning brick-red highlights and watery rim. Introverted, finely spiced Pinot scent of light red fruits. Very fine and elegant, hovering a few millimetres above the surface of the tongue, crumbly and chocolaty tannins, vital and present acidity, distinct extract sweetness, excellent length, enormously persistent. Not quite as complex as its 2008 predecessor, but shows a Burgundian style.

excessive taste of oak

Tasted on 26 October 2019 by Werner Elflein

Brilliant garnet red with discrete turbidity. Spicy Pinot scent of sour cherry, red currant and cranberry with distinctive but pleasing roast flavours from the oak and ethereal components. On the palate, however, the barrique notes come to the fore a little too much. The resulting impairment of the balance between coarse wood and sour fruit is mainly characterised by drying tannins. Unfortunately, aeration in the decanter can only partially remedy this deficiency. Nevertheless, with substance and a good accompaniment to food. Tannin-focused finish at the expense of the still good overall length.

Slightly cloudy, light cherry red with lightening and medium transparency. Darkens quickly when exposed to air. Well-balanced, not too deep scent of light red fruits and rosemary, underlined by rather superficial roasted aromas of new wood. In the mouth with a powerful attack, defined more by opulence than by elegance and finesse. The fruit is rather restrained and is strongly masked by the distinctive tannins. Nevertheless, good balance, also thanks to a stable, well-integrated acidity, which lingers piquantly in the finish. Cannot fully compete with Huber's best Pinot Noirs, namely those from the Hecklinger Schlossberg and the Bombacher Sommerhalde, but unfortunately not quite as good. Very good length.

🯅The rating of the wine is based on a single taster. The taster is named in the context of the rating. The tasting was either open or blind. In case of a blind tasting, it is explicitly labelled as such.
🯅🯅The rating of the wine is based on two tasters. The tasters are named in the context of the rating. The tasting was carried out according to the four-eyes principle, in which both tasters agree on a joint rating.
🯅🯅🯅The rating is based on a tasting by our jury and indicates the Mean value calculated by us from the individual ratings of the tasters. Our mean value is based on the median.
The wine was evaluated in a blind tasting. We have strict rules for blind tastings. The tasters do not receive any information that would allow them to identify the wines. The tasters are only given access to further information that goes beyond the subject matter if it is absolutely necessary for understanding the wines.
🕓We only had limited time to taste the wine  - typically during an open tasting event, such as a wine fair. It was therefore not possible to observe the development of the wine in the glass over a longer period of time. The informative value of our rating may therefore be limited under certain circumstances.
The wine was tasted as a barrel sample or before an official test number (Amtliche Prüfungsnummer or Staatliche Prüfnummer) was issued. We only accept samples of unfilled wines in exceptional cases, and then only if we can assume sufficient stability in the bottle for a period of at least three months.
During our tasting, the wine showed conspicuous sensory characteristics. This does not necessarily have to be a wine fault. We categorise the quality and quantity of the abnormality and include it in the rating. Wine faults such as cork taint or an atypical ageing generally lead to a complete rejection.
Tastings that refer to the same bottle of a wine are visually summarised by a dotted line.
