Transparent, bright, luminous and sparkling red. Woody, spicy aroma of tobacco with hints of both herbal and vegetable notes. The initially restrained, cool cherry fruit becomes more and more present the longer the nose lingers over the rim of the glass. Now sweet cherry is clearly perceptible, but also some sour cherry and even elderberry in the background. On the palate, the attack is fruity but by no means banal. Despite its lightness, there is enough substance and character here to make you forget that this is a red wine that Kristof Puder bottled in the year of harvest. Good acidity. Velvety and fine-grained tannins. Very good length. A real surprise. A wine with hidden talents that is more than it seems. Improves significantly with a little air.

WinewhitedryWeißer Riesling

Tasted on 17 January 2026 by Werner Elflein

Light yellow. Pronounced mineral nose with distinct herbal spice and floral notes of white blossoms. Subtle yellow fruit aromas, partly reminiscent of stone fruit. Distinctive and typical taste of a Riesling from a very calcareous soil. The strongly buffered acidity still seems very lively. Delicate hint of extract sweetness. Cool Riesling fruit. Juicy and expressive, with pull on the palate. Complex finish. Long and persistent.

WinereddryBlauer Spätburgunder

2022 Zell Klosterstück Spätburgunder Qualitätswein trocken

Dark, completely opaque red. Lively, slightly lactic, woody, sweetish aroma of blackberry jam and sour cherry. Powerful on the palate, which is surprising given the alcohol content of only 12 %. Fruit underpinned by ripe, partly sandy, partly fine-grained, polymerising tannins. Aroma of cocoa. Full of character, more baroque than elegant. Very distinctive. Long and persistent.

WinewhitesweetWeißer Riesling

2021 Niefernheim Apotheker Riesling Kabinett

Germany

Pfalz • Geschützte Ursprungsbezeichnung (g. U.)

Amtliche Prüfungsnummer 4187009 1 22 • 8 % vol alcohol

Bright yellow. Intense mineral nose, clearly reflecting the extremely chalky soil in Niefernheim Apotheker, a vineyard within the Kreuzberg. Subtle vegetal and herbal notes. The fruit focuses on green citrus aromas, especially lime and a hint of star fruit. Seemingly lean on the palate, yet enormously juicy. The lively acidity, however high it may be analytically, is buffered by the extract. Animating freshness. A wonderful cool-climate Riesling. Needs some air.

WinewhitedryWeißer Riesling

2020 Zell Schwarzer Herrgott Riesling Alte Reben Qualitätswein trocken

Germany

Pfalz • Geschützte Ursprungsbezeichnung (g. U.)

Amtliche Prüfungsnummer 4187009 10 22 • 11.5 % vol alcohol

18.5🯅

Tasted on 20 January 2026 by Werner Elflein

Bright yellow with white-gold reflections. Highly complex, mineral and herbal aroma of white currant and lemon with green herbal spice and vegetal notes. On the palate, it has a multi-layered attack, characterised by great freshness and vibrant acidity with good tension. Delicate melt, some wood spice with fine ethereal notes. Develops enormous pull on the palate. Distinct limestone influence. Clear and focused. Long finish with herbal spice notes again. Excellent length, seemingly endless finish. Still a long way from reaching its peak. A great dry Riesling.

In 2013, Kristof Puder filled a barrique barrel with a batch of Riesling from the Zell Großer Herrgott. We can only guess how the young wine might have tasted like. It was probably difficult to access and required bottle ageing. It has now achieved this. Full amber yellow with bright golden reflections. A highly mineral and aromatically extremely complex bouquet of a Riesling that has matured with honour, characterised by the use of wood. Behind the barrique wallpaper with notes of vanilla and burnt caramel is a still stable masonry of fruit aromas, covering a broad spectrum from citrus fruits to (partly dried) apricots. On the palate, it has a powerful and impressive attack, which is not defined by the alcohol, however. The wine manages with a mere 11.5 % without really seeming slender. The interplay of aromas from the nose continues convincingly on the palate. Uncompromisingly dry with only a slight wood and extract sweetness. A grand, artfully vinified monument with a concentration that lingers. Excellent length. Minutes-long finish.

🯅The rating of the wine is based on a single taster. The taster is named in the context of the rating. The tasting was either open or blind. In case of a blind tasting, it is explicitly labelled as such.
🯅🯅The rating of the wine is based on two tasters. The tasters are named in the context of the rating. The tasting was carried out according to the four-eyes principle, in which both tasters agree on a joint rating.
🯅🯅🯅The rating is based on a tasting by our jury and indicates the Mean value calculated by us from the individual ratings of the tasters. Our mean value is based on the median.
The wine was evaluated in a blind tasting. We have strict rules for blind tastings. The tasters do not receive any information that would allow them to identify the wines. The tasters are only given access to further information that goes beyond the subject matter if it is absolutely necessary for understanding the wines.
🕓We only had limited time to taste the wine  - typically during an open tasting event, such as a wine fair. It was therefore not possible to observe the development of the wine in the glass over a longer period of time. The informative value of our rating may therefore be limited under certain circumstances.
The wine was tasted as a barrel sample or before an official test number (Amtliche Prüfungsnummer or Staatliche Prüfnummer) was issued. We only accept samples of unfilled wines in exceptional cases, and then only if we can assume sufficient stability in the bottle for a period of at least three months.
During our tasting, the wine showed conspicuous sensory characteristics. This does not necessarily have to be a wine fault. We categorise the quality and quantity of the abnormality and include it in the rating. Wine faults such as cork taint or an atypical ageing generally lead to a complete rejection.
Tastings that refer to the same bottle of a wine are visually summarised by a dotted line.
