No, this is not a noble sweet wine! Markus Molitor's 2005 Auslese *** from the Erdener Treppchen tastes (almost) dry and with 13.5 % vol alcohol is anything but a lightweight. In the glass, it shimmers in a greenish golden yellow colour and demands full attention already when perceiving the bouquet. Deep, yet at the same time stimulating floral aromas as well as fine, very clear peach aromas with a subtle ethereal note. On the palate with a powerful, warming attack - here the otherwise not disturbing alcohol stands out a little. After only a few seconds on the tongue, fruit and the typical Treppchen minerality emerge behind the opulence, quite unvarnished. This surprising moment is irritating at first, even causing a certain perplexity. An outstandingly successful synthesis of body and elegance! With some air the fragrance becomes more and more differentiated. Were there hints of soy and curry? One thing is certain: this wine will polarise and will undoubtedly meet with opposition from the chronic non-understanders of such a unique and unusual style. The elegant acidity of the 2005 vintage and the residual sugar, which sensorially emancipates itself from any petty-ideological discussion about its analytical value, are harmoniously integrated. It almost goes without saying that this wine of character, which has its origins in the vineyard, has outstanding length and sustainability. Now already in excellent condition, but still has reserves.

Bright golden green amber. Distinctive caramel nose. Slightly buttery fragrance, with hints of melon and spicy notes that signal the beginning of tertiary ripening. The 15 % vol alcohol present according to the bottle label is very well integrated. For all its opulence, it is anything but ponderous or satiating. On the tongue with quite present fruit - besides butter, melon also appears again. Balanced and calming. Good balance. Excellent length.

Bright green gold. Fresh bouquet, underpinned by the finest, only slightly buttery roasted aromas and characterised by yellow fruity aromas. Delicate ethereal notes. Overall in the nose rather discreet. With 15 % very strong alcohol, but by no means brandy. On the contrary, the alcohol is very well absorbed and integrated by the existing substance. Ten years after the harvest there is still no recognisable tertiary maturity. Very well balanced, in itself calm. Opulent yet with a certain lightness and finesse. Heavy, but not ponderous. Breathtaking length.

Bright golden yellow with bright reflections. Quiet, unobtrusive fragrance with hints of ripe yellow fruit, banana and tobacco. First signs of firn in the background. Powerful attack on the palate, slightly warming alcohol, soft creamy texture, very moderate acidity, excellent length, long finish.

Clear, greenish straw yellow. Dense nose, dominated by the banana aromas of the 2003 vintage. Also delicately scents of peach, mirabellet and coconut flakes. Despite only 11.5 % vol alcohol, it has an astonishing power. Creamy, delicate and mineral on the palate. Ripe, balanced fruit. Moderate acidity. Finish marked by the minerality. Long finish.

Bright, bright straw yellow. Complex bouquet, marked by slate minerality, delicate ripe notes and wild aromas with hints of yellow fruit. In the mouth it shows high complexity. Possesses muscles, but lets them play only in secret. Elegance and filigree already suggest its origin in Wehlen or Zeltingen. Fine minerality that persists on the palate. Subtle spiciness. Mature, excellently integrated acidity. Mineral finish, great length. Beginning drinking maturity, great potential.

Golden yellow. Clear, focused, rather quiet scent with delicate hints of apricot and some herbal sugar. Lean, straightforward style of a great classic and cool vintage. Fine slate spice on the palate. Still very vital acidity that forces a draw in the duel with the sweetness. Outstanding length and depth.

🯅The rating of the wine is based on a single taster. The taster is named in the context of the rating. The tasting was either open or blind. In case of a blind tasting, it is explicitly labelled as such.
🯅🯅The rating of the wine is based on two tasters. The tasters are named in the context of the rating. The tasting was carried out according to the four-eyes principle, in which both tasters agree on a joint rating.
🯅🯅🯅The rating is based on a tasting by our jury and indicates the Mean value calculated by us from the individual ratings of the tasters. Our mean value is based on the median.
The wine was evaluated in a blind tasting. We have strict rules for blind tastings. The tasters do not receive any information that would allow them to identify the wines. The tasters are only given access to further information that goes beyond the subject matter if it is absolutely necessary for understanding the wines.
🕓We only had limited time to taste the wine  - typically during an open tasting event, such as a wine fair. It was therefore not possible to observe the development of the wine in the glass over a longer period of time. The informative value of our rating may therefore be limited under certain circumstances.
The wine was tasted as a barrel sample or before an official test number (Amtliche Prüfungsnummer or Staatliche Prüfnummer) was issued. We only accept samples of unfilled wines in exceptional cases, and then only if we can assume sufficient stability in the bottle for a period of at least three months.
During our tasting, the wine showed conspicuous sensory characteristics. This does not necessarily have to be a wine fault. We categorise the quality and quantity of the abnormality and include it in the rating. Wine faults such as cork taint or an atypical ageing generally lead to a complete rejection.
Tastings that refer to the same bottle of a wine are visually summarised by a dotted line.
