Opaque dark cherry red colour, without any brightening. Woody, spicy aroma of sour cherry, showing hardly any ripeness. Still lots of Pinot fruit on the palate. Partly fine-grained, partly sandy tannins. Very good length.

Opaque dark red. On the nose, a interplay of sour cherry and roasted aromas. The Neuenahr Sonnenberg is one of the hottest sites in the Ahr valley. Accordingly, this Große Gewächs unfolds in the mouth with concentration, power, and spice. The tannins, partly coarse-grained and partly velvety, are now well polymerized and provide a slightly chocolatey fullness in the mouth. Harmonious and coherent, in keeping with the saying “True strength lies in calmness”. Great length. Despite its maturity, it still needs a few hours in the decanter.

Dark, opaque cherry red. Typical early Burgundy nose with a concentrated scent of blueberry and dried herbs with a subtle woody note. In the attack on the palate again dried herbs. Elegant fruit, some liquorice. Dark berry aromas with components reminiscent of violet. Coarse-grained, chocolaty tannins. Distinct but fine roasted aromas. Excellent length.

Relatively dark, almost opaque and faintly sparkling cherry red colour. Still characterised by the wood tannins, the aroma of cassis, black cherry, ripe strawberry and blackberry overpowers the fruit. Behind this, hints of red fruit jelly and white pepper. A powerful attack on the palate that does not deny the presence of alcohol. More of a baroque Pinot Noir type. Distinctive, sandy, chocolaty-cocoa-like and already slightly crumbly tannins of high quality. Spicy and cool. Very good length. Still needs time.

Transparent garnet red with discrete haze due to the unfiltered filling. Spicy aroma of toasted aromas and sour cherry. On the tongue with a good balance between cool and spicy Pinot fruit, distinctive coarse-grained tannins and lively acidity. Excellent length, persistent. De facto not aged until today, still looks youthful and has potential for several decades.

Dark, almost opaque cherry red. Concentrated, spicy and peppery scent of cooked blueberry. Despite a moderate alcohol content, it is warming, has a lot of power and still has an amazingly youthful effect. Even the quite distinctive wood tannins, which are just beginning to become brittle, are not yet fully integrated. Very long and lasting.

Aged for ten years – and it needed this time to come a big step closer to perfection. The 2006 Pinot Noir Précoce from the Recher Herrenberg is a little cloudy due to the unfiltered filling, but still very stable in colour. Garnet red in colour, and not at all with the lightening on the glass wall that it deserves after such a long period in the bottle. Fresh on the nose with an expressive ethereal note that does not clearly indicate which berry fruit is still present. In the mouth, however, a clearer picture emerges: a bush full of ripe, but still firm-feeling blackberries. The tannins are still strong, but lose most of their rigour after a few hours of contact with the air. What remains is pure tension. Velvety tannins on the one hand, grainy and sandy tannins with a certain grip on the other. Distinct woody and dry herbal flavours. Excellent length, lingering for minutes.

Dense, slightly transparent cherry red. In the nose fine wood spice and hints of sour cherry. On the tongue with outstanding balance. Coarse-grained and velvety tannins are perfectly interwoven with finest, complex fruit density. Vital acidity. Delicate extract sweetness. Excellent length and depth. Reverberation lasting for minutes. Needs several hours in the decanter to develop, even at a relatively high age. Probably at its peak at the moment, with potential for many more years.

Faintly transparent to almost opaque cherry red. Sweet fruity aromas on the nose, especially of cranberry, and chocolaty roasted aromas. Slightly old woody, but fine. Highly elegant Pinot fruit, with silky and velvety tannins that melt on the tongue. Somewhat ethereal with hints of juniper, eucalyptus and herbs. Very long.

Transparent, slightly cloudy brick-garnet red colour. Primarily ethereal Pinot Noir aroma with fruity hints of red fruit jelly and white pepper. Still with angular tannins on the palate, partly crumbly on the palate, but also partly astringent, a little drying and with a slight bitterness. Reminiscent of dark chocolate. Hints of sweetness. Needs air and calls for a strong food companion. Very good length.

Dark garnet red, clouded by the unfiltered filling with a brick-red edge. Deep, highly aromatic and slightly honey-spicy scent of black cherry and herbs. Powerful and intense without the alcohol being noticeable. Harmonious, velvety to fine-grained tannins thanks to perfect use of oak. In view of the vintage, surprisingly vital acidity and still with the amazing freshness of a wine that does not seem to age. Excellent length and sustainability. A great German Pinot Noir.

Initially brick red with medium transparency and cloudiness due to the unfiltered bottling, after a longer time in the air darker, almost cherry red, and increasingly opaque. Highly complex scent of blueberry, forest soil, graphite and tar. Monumental fullness, a Pinot heavyweight from the hot and dry “summer of the century” 2003, that despite the climatic extremes shows no signs of over-ripening and even has a fine acidity framework that perfectly balances the opulent fruit and the still quite distinctive, but now polymerized and brittle, chocolate-like tannins. Herbal and ethereal on the palate. The relatively high alcohol content (14.5 %) is excellently integrated and – in combination with the blueberry fruit which is very present here – warming in the finish. Great length and almost endless aftertaste.

Dark, thick black red. After a good 15 years in the bottle, still with a youthful, concentrated bouquet of raspberry and candied sweet cherry, underpinned by fine etherealness and hints of highly refined roasted aromas and delicate herbal spice. Enormously expressive on the palate. Velvety, present and chocolaty tannins. Roasted aromas again, more prominent than in the nose. Great elegance despite full maturity. Fine acidity. Excellent balance. Warming in the minute-long finish.

Dark cherry red with brightening reflections tending towards orange. Brownish rim. Woody spicy scent of chocolate with hints of wild berries. Distinct roasted aromas. Expressive, Burgundy-like Pinot fruit on the palate, fine-grained tannins, grippy minerality and stable acidity. Despite 14 percent alcohol, not at all ponderous, even quite elegant. In the finish again clearly chocolaty notes. Excellent length, very deep and persistent. Currently in excellent condition. Should definitely be decanted and needs one to two hours of air. It is recommended to drink the wine over the next few years.

🯅The rating of the wine is based on a single taster. The taster is named in the context of the rating. The tasting was either open or blind. In case of a blind tasting, it is explicitly labelled as such.
🯅🯅The rating of the wine is based on two tasters. The tasters are named in the context of the rating. The tasting was carried out according to the four-eyes principle, in which both tasters agree on a joint rating.
🯅🯅🯅The rating is based on a tasting by our jury and indicates the Mean value calculated by us from the individual ratings of the tasters. Our mean value is based on the median.
The wine was evaluated in a blind tasting. We have strict rules for blind tastings. The tasters do not receive any information that would allow them to identify the wines. The tasters are only given access to further information that goes beyond the subject matter if it is absolutely necessary for understanding the wines.
🕓We only had limited time to taste the wine  - typically during an open tasting event, such as a wine fair. It was therefore not possible to observe the development of the wine in the glass over a longer period of time. The informative value of our rating may therefore be limited under certain circumstances.
The wine was tasted as a barrel sample or before an official test number (Amtliche Prüfungsnummer or Staatliche Prüfnummer) was issued. We only accept samples of unfilled wines in exceptional cases, and then only if we can assume sufficient stability in the bottle for a period of at least three months.
During our tasting, the wine showed conspicuous sensory characteristics. This does not necessarily have to be a wine fault. We categorise the quality and quantity of the abnormality and include it in the rating. Wine faults such as cork taint or an atypical ageing generally lead to a complete rejection.
Tastings that refer to the same bottle of a wine are visually summarised by a dotted line.
