The Ahrweiler Winzer-Verein is one of Germany's most long-established winegrowers' cooperatives and has been shaping viticulture in the Ahr Valley for more than 150 years. Founded in 1874 by 51 winegrowers, the cooperative arose from the idea of collective economic activity, entirely in keeping with Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen's cooperative principle. From humble beginnings, it has developed into a modern wine-growing enterprise that has retained its historical roots to this day.

With just under 25 hectares of vineyards and around 78 members, the Ahrweiler Winzer-Verein is now the smallest of the three winegrowers' cooperatives in the Ahr Valley. It is precisely this manageable size that gives the cooperative its family-like character. The vineyards are mainly tended by hand by the winegrowers' families, with the grapes being harvested selectively.

The Ahrweiler Winzer-Verein is based in historic Ahrweiler. Just a few steps from the medieval Obertor gate lie the cooperative's wine shop and historic vaulted cellars.

The focus of wine production is on the classic grape varieties of the Ahr. Around 85 per cent of the grapes processed are red wine varieties, primarily Pinot Noir and Frühburgunder, supplemented by Portugieser, Dornfelder and Regent. White wines account for around 15 per cent of production. In addition to wine, the cooperative also produces sparkling wines, grape juices and spirits.

The history of the Ahrweiler Winzer-Verein has been marked by numerous challenges. A significant milestone was the merger with the Ahrweiler Weinbauverein in 1961. The flood disaster in July 2021 had a particularly devastating impact. The floodwaters destroyed large parts of the buildings and historic vaulted cellars. However, just a few days after the disaster, the cooperative received support from numerous volunteers from all over Germany. The reconstruction became an impressive example of solidarity and cohesion in the Ahr Valley. Today, the Ahrweiler Winzer-Verein once again stands as a vibrant hub for winemaking and social interaction.

In 2024, the cooperative celebrated its 150th anniversary. This anniversary symbolises the extraordinary history of the organisation: the blend of tradition and modernity, the passion of the winegrowing families, and the unique identity of the Ahr Valley.

🯅The rating of the wine is based on a single taster. The taster is named in the context of the rating. The tasting was either open or blind. In case of a blind tasting, it is explicitly labelled as such.
🯅🯅The rating of the wine is based on two tasters. The tasters are named in the context of the rating. The tasting was carried out according to the four-eyes principle, in which both tasters agree on a joint rating.
🯅🯅🯅The rating is based on a tasting by our jury and indicates the Mean value calculated by us from the individual ratings of the tasters. Our mean value is based on the median.
⚖The wine was evaluated in a blind tasting. We have strict rules for blind tastings. The tasters do not receive any information that would allow them to identify the wines. The tasters are only given access to further information that goes beyond the subject matter if it is absolutely necessary for understanding the wines.
🕓We only had limited time to taste the wine  - typically during an open tasting event, such as a wine fair. It was therefore not possible to observe the development of the wine in the glass over a longer period of time. The informative value of our rating may therefore be limited under certain circumstances.
⛬The wine was tasted as a barrel sample or before an official test number (Amtliche Prüfungsnummer or Staatliche Prüfnummer) was issued. We only accept samples of unfilled wines in exceptional cases, and then only if we can assume sufficient stability in the bottle for a period of at least three months.
▲During our tasting, the wine showed conspicuous sensory characteristics. This does not necessarily have to be a wine fault. We categorise the quality and quantity of the abnormality and include it in the rating. Wine faults such as cork taint or an atypical ageing generally lead to a complete rejection.
Tastings that refer to the same bottle of a wine are visually summarised by a dotted line.
